FALL YOGA RETREAT IN A NUTSHELL

2 teachers, maximum 10 students.

This is our practice, the fruit of our labor and from experience over the years. We pass on everything we know that safely builds the awareness, mobility and strength to align and ground you in relation to your body and mind.

Each retreat day includes yoga and relaxation exercises as well as exercises that prevent excessive or unilateral stress of your body.

We’ll start our days with guided yoga and meditation classes and finish in the evening with wonderful yin yoga & yoga nidra, to enable you to deep relax and reconnect your body and mind. You will also find deep relaxation in our guided visualisations. In every yoga class we will focus on different part of the body; the upper body and shoulders, the spine, the lower body. Kirsi will teach yoga classes, and Rita will train you off the mat.

We will explore how different asanas feel in our body, and how we can find the right fluctuation for you with small anatomical instructions. Also, we’ll take a look at how we can practice yoga off the mat – we will go through movements that support and strengthen our body more comprehensively for yoga in our everyday life. For example, for the upper body, we will practice a variety of pulling and pushing movements – weather permitting we’ll take you rock climbing.

The morning yogas will be dynamic style (hatha and vinyasa yoga), and exercises off the mat will support the theme of the morning yoga (max 2 hrs). In the evening we’ll have yin yoga and yoga nidra – soothing and balancing yoga (max 1,5, hrs).

Since the groups in our retreats are always small (max 8-10 people), you will fit in no matter what your level is – special attention to individual needs is guaranteed.

After a class, you may dip into the natural swimming pool (no chlorite nor other chemicals!) or relax in the sauna. Or maybe just steal a moment for yourself and your book, curl up in a hammock tucked away under the trees. If you wish to still get more active physically, the surroundings are perfect for jogging, hiking, cycling, swimming, or even horse-riding can be arranged. In your spare time you can also engage in a game of badminton or ping-pong, and we need to add, that “the Hamlet Hike” around the property with Nicolas has been very popular – just don’t wear your high heels!

Inspiring instructors

RITA TUOHIMAA & KIRSI TIKKA

Kirsi and Rita have known each other for more than five years. They both have holistic way to look at how the human body and mind work, not focusing on the species alone. Together they have held yoga clasess and produced different well-being events.

Kirsi Tikka is an experienced yoga teacher and event and cultural producer. She has years of experience in teaching different groups from beginners to experienced and from dancers to skateboarders. She has been teaching full-time since 2009.

Kirsi is a creative and imaginative teacher. There is a strong bond between breathing and movement in her vinyasa yoga classes. She also trains yoga teachers and personal trainers together with various partners, and she is the Co-Founder of Yoga Base, a yoga studio in Helsinki, Finland. In addition, she has written a book on 30 Steps to work in my body and mind (2016) together with her colleague Jarno Härkönen. She has studied at the Finnish National Opera Ballet School in 1999-2006.

Rita is a personal trainer, yoga and movement coach, and a climber. She has been running yoga and movement studios, and also a hostel in Mexico, “because why not”, she says. After making transitions from yoga to weight lifting, she dedicated her life to bouldering, and yoga came back to her daily routines in order to provide balance. Her own yoga practice is smooth, easy and gentle. Rita is passionate about shoulder and upper body strength and well-functioning buttocks.

Her quote of life is ”The key of Happiness is finding the Answers and solving Problems.”

YOUR HOME FOR THE STAY

You will stay in the Guest House of The Happy Hamlet, which centuries ago was home for several families and now has been turned into a place for feeling good. The charming rooms (double, twin or triple) have each an ensuite bathroom with a window. The house has been renovated by preserving as much of the old as possible, yet keeping the comfort in mind. Many recycled treasures have been given new life allowing them to tell you their stories from the past.

The huge barn will be your lounge, salon and kitchen whenever you wish, and the vast property offers woods and prairies, fields and valleys for you to explore. You are welcome to enjoy the organic produce from the garden whenever you feel like having a healthy snack. With the sessions and discussions, other activities and visits you will surely have plenty to do, to explore and to experience – but you will certainly have your free time, too. Nothing beats the hammock under the trees for good relaxation!

At night, once in bed, you’ll be guaranteed a good night’s sleep because the only background noise will be the owl informing that everything is.. just fine.
