What our previous guests have said

“Un lieu d’exception et des hôtes charmants ! Je recommande The Happy Hamlet à tous ceux qui veulent vivre une expérience sur mesure : les chambres sont toutes charmantes, avec beaucoup de détails ravissants ; la cuisine est un délice ; et Nicolas et Suska sont 2 passionnés prêts à tout pour ravir leurs invités. Nous avons passé un séjour fantastique, et espérons y revenir bientôt !”  – LAURA (Août 2018)

Learn, explore & enjoy!

As per required skill level, it would be good to have “low A2/B1” or notions of French in order to follow the classes and get the best out of them.

There will be 18 hours of sessions spread out over the week, allowing you to progress quickly and at a lively pace. We will cover different aspects of the language in order to help you develop your language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing and communicating). This will enable you to acquire new expertise and enrich your overall knowledge and understanding.

The emphasis will primarily be on oral comprehension and expression. However, the importance given to the different skills may change in order to best meet your goals and objectives. Being part of a small group will naturally help to encourage more interaction. Additionally, employing a variety of activities will allow us to work on the different linguistic skills in a more dynamic way.

Morning sessions will be focused on a more general approach to learning French. In other words we will cover different themes of daily life and current events using authentic French materials. The sessions in the afternoon will be based around more specific concepts related to the proposed activities. You will also be able to put into practice your newly acquired skills.

After a class, you may dip into the natural swimming pool (no chlorite nor other chemicals!) or relax in the sauna. Or maybe just steal a moment for yourself and your book, curl up in a hammock tucked away under the trees. If you wish to still get more active physically, the surroundings are perfect for jogging, hiking or cycling. In your spare time you can also engage in a game of badminton or ping-pong, and we need to add, that “the Hamlet Hike” around the property with Nicolas has been very popular – just don’t wear your high heels!

Our program is based on a “go with the flow” mentality, this is your vacation, after all! You may participate in our little visits in the region – but it’s completely fine if you wish to stay “home” in the Hamlet. We’ll visit a charming medieval village on an evening dinner market, we’ll go treasure hunting to a local “brocante” and since in France, we’ll definitely do some wine-tasting at our friends’ vineyard. Departure day morning, if your travel plans allow, we’ll pick up the freshest from the nearby farmers’ market and enjoy a champagne brunch before the “au revoirs”. That is, “until we meet again” – because we think you might want to return..

Ps. Have a look at the lovely reviews of our previous retreat guests!

An inspiring, professional and fun instructor!

As an experienced teacher, I have taught a variety of courses in Switzerland, Ireland, Spain and France. Passionate about both the French language and teaching, my career path has led me to live and work in Toulouse. My professional and personal experiences in France and abroad have taught me a lot about myself and how I want to teach. This is why cultural and linguistics interactions have become, for me, an essential and indispensable part of learning a language. Curious, sporty and dynamic, I offer motivating courses adapted to the needs and aspirations of each individual.

Sweet dreams guaranteed...

You will stay in the Guest House of The Happy Hamlet, which centuries ago was home for several families and now has been turned into a place for feeling good. The charming rooms (double, twin or triple) have each an ensuite bathroom with a window. The house has been renovated by preserving as much of the old as possible, yet keeping the comfort in mind. Many recycled treasures have been given new life allowing them to tell you their stories from the past.

The huge barn will be your lounge, salon and kitchen whenever you wish, and the vast property offers woods and prairies, fields and valleys for you to explore. You are welcome to enjoy the organic produce from the garden whenever you feel like having a healthy snack. With the sessions and discussions, other activities and visits you will surely have plenty to do, to explore and to experience – but you will certainly have your free time, too. Nothing beats the hammock under the trees for good relaxation!

At night, once in bed, you’ll be guaranteed a good night’s sleep because the only background noise will be the owl informing that everything is.. just fine.

See gallery in the bottom of the page or visit directly here for more photos of The Happy Hamlet property, the Guest House & rooms, the barn, the outdoors and more. Lovely feedback and reviews from our previous guests can be found on our testimonials page, on our Facebook (click “most recent”), and also on Google Business and TripAdvisor (search The Happy Hamlet).

In France they say "Bon Appétit". And they mean it, literally.

Meals are prepared by a professional chef with own organic produce combined with the offering from the local farmers. The region’s wine selection is impressive, and you will be able to taste and find your favorites both during the meals as well as the visits to the vineyards. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and all drinks are included. You’re really meant to feel “at home”, which means that you’re welcome to enjoy anything from the garden or kitchen whenever you feel like a healthy snack – or have a glass of wine by the pool if that’s what would make you happy right there and right then.

You can join the “Hamleters” and visit one of the daily markets to hand-pick all the fresh goodies for a pique-nique. One evening will be dedicated for a long dinner at the evening dinner market, where we will be able to taste local specialties under the stars with the fellow-villagers. Bon appétit indeed!

And when we say local, we mean local – check out the foodie map of the surrounding producers.
