Embrace the Art of Pausing

Let your mind be still and let your breath lead your movements. Find your balance in the relaxed surroundings of The Happy Hamlet, feel the freedom of your breath through yoga and move your body happily inside the system of ashtanga yoga. This retreat is open for all ashtanga lovers who have either an existing Mysore practice or who are ready to take the step towards independent and oh-so-rewarding Mysore practice.

Breathe & Relax

We will start our mornings peacefully with Mysore yoga classes, where students are enjoying their individual ashtanga yoga practices in a group setting. Outi will assist and support your independent morning practice, but most of all you can just be with your breath, listen to your body and dive deep into the beauty of silence at the Happy Hamlet’s Yoga Shala. The Happy Hamlet’s Yoga Shala supports and nourishes your practice with a stunning view, fresh air and nicely bouncing floor.

The themes for afternoon yoga sessions will vary daily. We will focus on making your ashtanga yoga practice as safe as possible by learning more about practice techniques. We will also do some breath work and relaxation practices everyday.

During afternoons we will balance ashtanga yoga’s dynamic nature by searching our grounding. Sometimes we will just sit in silence, observe and listen. And other times you will get a chance to ask questions and share your yoga experiences with the group. Freedom to talk or stay in quietness will lead the afternoon sessions. And no matter what we won’t forget to stretch every now and then!

Other Activities

In between the classes and tasty meals you can steal a moment for yourself and your book, curl up in a hammock tucked away under the trees. If you wish to get more active physically, the surroundings are perfect for walks or jogging, and we need to add, that “the Hamlet Hike” around the property with Nicolas has been very popular – just don’t wear your high heels! You may dip into the natural pool (no chlorite nor other chemicals!) or no matter rain or shine, we’ll heat up the sauna for you to relax and enjoy the views.

Our program is based on a “go with the flow” mentality, this is your vacation, after all! You may participate in our little visits in the region – but it’s completely fine if you wish to stay “home” in the Hamlet. You can take an afternoon off and visit Moissac (with a beautiful, UNESCO world heritage listed abbey as well as cafés and shops) as well a pop in to our favorite “Brocante” (a very French way of selling and recycling old goods). On departure day morning we’ll visit the nearby medieval village and pick up the freshest from its farmers’ market for a champagne brunch before the “au revoirs”. That is, “until we meet again” – because we think you might want to return…

Ps. Have a look at the lovely reviews of our previous retreat guests.

Your Instructor Outi

I found yoga in 2007 because of my Mother who had been practicing hatha yoga for years. During those days I was looking for a new hobby to balance my hectic work as a lawyer. I took one ashtanga class and I was hooked.

Ashtanga was so hard for me both physically and mentally but extremely rewarding as well. I loved the challenges of it! The practice was strangely calming my mind and I quickly became a dedicated seeker of that peace of mind. Nowadays ashtanga is a way of life for me.

My yoga path has taken me all over the world and in 2010 it took me all the way to India. I studied with R. Sharath Jois in Mysore for five months and I did Yoga Alliance RYT200+ training in Koh Samui in 2011. After my studies abroad I returned to Helsinki and was asked to start teaching. I created my company Outi Sirviö Yoga in 2013 and started to teach full time.

Sharath gave me his blessing to teach Primary Series in 2015. I still return to India yearly. The past few years I have studied mostly in Goa with Sharmila Desai at her Shala Ashtanga Yoga Morjim.

I never thought that I wanted to become a yoga teacher. But when I started to teach I felt that I had found my true calling. It was fascinating to meet different kind of yoga students with various backgrounds and see ashtanga’s true power to heal.

I believe that every student is unique and this practice belongs to all. I want to encourage my students to find the strengths of their body and mind through yoga. For my classes I wish to create calm and safe environment where everybody is welcome to breathe freely.

Your Home for the Stay

You will stay in the Guest House of The Happy Hamlet, which centuries ago was home for several families and now has been turned into a place for feeling good. The charming rooms (double, twin or triple) have each an ensuite bathroom with a window. The house has been renovated by preserving as much of the old as possible, yet keeping the comfort in mind. Many recycled treasures have been given new life allowing them to tell you their stories from the past.

The huge barn will be your lounge, salon and kitchen whenever you wish, and the vast property offers woods and prairies, fields and valleys for you to explore. With the practice, meals, discussions, other activities and visits you will surely have plenty to do, to explore and to experience. But you will certainly have your free time, too. Nothing beats the hammock under the trees for good relaxation!

At night, once in bed, you’ll be guaranteed a good night’s sleep because the only background noise will be the owl informing that everything is.. just fine.

Healthy Local Food

This retreat will have a special treat in the kitchen, as Teresa Välimäki (already a true part of the Hamlet-family) will be in charge of the delicious meals. You may even join her in the kitchen if you’d like to learn a few tricks from a pro!

We use our own organic produce in the season combined with the offering from the local farmers. When we say local, we really mean it, most of the ingredients come from under half on hour’s drive!

The region’s wine selection is impressive, and you will be able to taste and find your favorites during the dinners if you wish.

Breakfast, lunch, apéro and dinner, any snacks and all drinks are included. You’re really meant to feel “at home”, which means that you’re welcome to enjoy anything from the garden or kitchen whenever you feel like it.
