What our previous guests have said

“Once you arrive you never ever want to leave! The most beautiful place, the most warm hearted & kind hostess, the most caring service, the most delicious food.. I still miss those tomatoes from the garden! French farmhouse Living at it’s best. Bisous to Suska, I will be back!”  – SATU (September 2017)

In France they say "Bon Appétit". And they mean it, literally.

This “Food & Photography retreat” is a combination of all things good. Together we’ll share our love for eating, cooking, sipping wine and and photographing food in a relaxed pace.

In the kitchen with Teresa you’ll concentrate on creating and writing recipes, using the best seasonal ingredients available, cooking and creating food and plates as picturesque as possible. Not to forget the deliciousness of the food.

Mari will teach you the best ‘tricks of the trade’ for beautiful photography and food styling by demos, shooting together and hands on practice. We will deal with the importance of post-processing and learn how to use the most useful features of Lightroom and Snapseed. During this retreat you can shoot with digital camera or mobile phone – or both.

During these days you’ll also learn a lot about food photography and have time to practice what you’ve learned but also you’ll have time to dip in the pool, take long morning walks with The Happy Hamlet’s animals and sit in the shade sipping rose wine with like-minded people.

We’ll also have time to make visits to wineries and markets. One of the highlights of this retreats is a visit to a local brocante, an antique flea market where you can shop amazing food photography props – utensils, plates, pots, pans, you name it – for few euros.

Our retreat will consist of various food and photography related themes, such as
– A visit to a local Brocante, a French-style antique flea market (that will make you go “ohlala!”) to discover the most attractive props for your shoots
– A visit to a farmers’ market to shoot fresh seasonal produce and the village ambiance, as well as to buy the best ingredients for our cooking
– An afternoon trip to the local vineyards, where on top of the wine tasting we’ll practise shooting wine, glasses, and the details in the middle of the vines.
No matter what the content of the day is, we’ll always shoot, process, plan recipes, cook – and enjoy delicious food, local wines and fun company, bien sur!

This retreat is open to food enthusiasts and photographers of all levels. Mari will give you insight to food photography, styling and post-processing the photos, and with Teresa you will learn everything that happens in the kitchen before the food is ready to be photographed and enjoyed.

What you need:
* A camera: digital camera, mobile phone or both
* For post-processing: Lightroom on your computer and/or Snapseed on your phone

Sweet dreams guaranteed...

You will stay in the Guest House of The Happy Hamlet, which centuries ago was home for several families and now has been turned into a place for feeling good. The charming rooms (double, twin or triple) have each an ensuite bathroom with a window. The house has been renovated by preserving as much of the old as possible, yet keeping the comfort in mind. Many recycled treasures have been given new life allowing them to tell you their stories from the past.

The huge barn will be your lounge, salon and kitchen whenever you wish, and the vast property offers woods and prairies, fields and valleys for you to explore. You are welcome to enjoy the organic produce from the garden whenever you feel like having a healthy snack. With the sessions and discussions, other activities and visits you will surely have plenty to do, to explore and to experience – but you will certainly have your free time, too. Nothing beats the hammock under the trees for good relaxation!

At night, once in bed, you’ll be guaranteed a good night’s sleep because the only background noise will be the owl informing that everything is.. just fine.

See gallery in the bottom of the page or visit directly here for more photos of The Happy Hamlet property, the Guest House & rooms, the barn, the outdoors and more. Lovely feedback and reviews from our previous guests can be found on our testimonials page, on our Facebook (click “most recent”), and also on Google Business and TripAdvisor (search The Happy Hamlet).
